01
The Product
WordSynk powers language services for governments, enterprise organizations, and thousands of professional linguists worldwide.
The platform supports the complete lifecycle of translation, transcription, and interpreting, from customer bookings to assignment management and operational coordination.
Its users range from public-sector organizations placing urgent interpreter requests to linguists accepting work on the move, making reliability and clarity essential to every workflow.
02
The Challenge
The platform had evolved over many years without a unified design direction.
While operationally successful, increasing feature complexity created friction across navigation, accessibility, and consistency, especially for users working under time pressure.
Accessibility
Critical workflows required clearer navigation and more accessible interaction patterns.
Visual Consistency
Patterns had evolved independently across products, creating inconsistent experiences across portals.
Multiple User Groups
Customers, linguists, and internal operations teams approached the platform with different goals, mental models, and levels of urgency.
03
Understanding the Ecosystem
The biggest design challenge was not aesthetics. It was designing a platform that could serve three distinct user groups without creating confusion between them.
Enterprise Clients
Organizations booking interpreting, translation, or transcription services. They need clarity, confidence, and speed, often while making requests under time pressure.
Professional Linguists
Interpreters and translators accepting, managing, and completing assignments. They need a clear, fast, mobile-friendly experience to review and act on work.
Internal Operations Team
Bigword's internal staff managing bookings, assignments, and delivery behind the scenes. They need dense operational information without unnecessary friction.
04
Discovery
Understanding before designing
Before jumping into solutions, discovery focused on understanding where the platform was creating friction and why.
Heuristic Evaluation
Reviewed existing screens against usability principles to identify structural issues such as unclear navigation, weak hierarchy, and missing feedback states.
Feedback Review
Analysed existing user feedback and complaints to identify recurring patterns in what frustrated users most.
Stakeholder Conversations
Worked with Product Owners to understand business constraints, what must not break, and what success should look like for the company.
Backlog Review
Reviewed existing product requests and user stories to understand what pain points had already been captured by other teams.
05
Design Leadership
My role extended beyond interface redesign. I worked across discovery, experience design, stakeholder alignment, and design system consistency.
Discovery
Audited the existing experience and identified usability opportunities across key workflows.
Experience Design
Owned information architecture, user flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity interfaces for redesigned experiences.
Stakeholder Alignment
Presented design rationale, facilitated reviews, and iterated with Product Owners based on business and technical constraints.
Design System
Extended existing components while maintaining consistency across the broader WordSynk platform.
06
What Guided Every Decision
Every design decision had to respect the reality of enterprise systems: people depend on these workflows daily, and even small changes can affect operational continuity.
07
Visual Evidence
Visuals protected while the redesign isin progress.
The live product work is currently under active development and review. Screens will be added once the redesigned experience is approved for public sharing.
08
Current Status
The redesign is currently in progress in collaboration with Product Owners and engineering teams.
The customer-facing experience is the current focus, with additional platform areas following as part of the broader modernization effort.
09
Reflection
Designing for enterprise is not about making interfaces simpler for the sake of simplicity.
It is about making complexity manageable for people whose work depends on making the right decision quickly.
Working on WordSynk reinforced that successful enterprise products balance usability, operational constraints, accessibility, and business continuity, not by removing complexity, but by organizing it.
